Tuition Grants Commission Approves Spring-only Grant Appeal Options for Virginia College students for 2018-2019

The South Carolina Higher Education Tuition Grants Commission, by unanimous vote, has approved a one-time waiver of several Commission policies for students displaced by the sudden nationwide closure of Virginia College including their five South Carolina campuses.  Understanding that numerous Tuition Grants eligible colleges are doing their best to accommodate these students with transfer admissions to their institutions, the Commission is providing, to those meeting all eligibility requirements, the opportunity to receive a Spring-only Tuition Grant.  To do so, an appeal must be made to the Commission by either the student or the college, on behalf of the student, for a Spring-only Grant.  A student must meet the following stipulations in order to appeal for a Spring-only Grant:

  1. Student must have been enrolled at Virginia College on a full-time basis (12 or more credit-hours) during the fall 2018 term of enrollment
  2. Student must be attending one of the 21 participating institutions on a full-time basis (12 or more credit-hours) during the spring 2019 term of enrollment
  3. Student must be a legal South Carolina resident
  4. Student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress in accordance with the Commission’s SAP policy for transfer student (contact Financial Aid Office for information)
  5. Student must have a valid 2018-2019 FAFSA with an application receipt date between October 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018
  6. The student must submit, or the college may submit on behalf of the student, an appeal for a spring-only Tuition Grant no later than February 15, 2019
  7. Student must complete an Affidavit of Eligibility no later than February 15, 2019 (contact Financial Aid Office to complete this)
  8. Federal or institutional verification must be completed by the Financial Aid Office no later than February 15, 2019
  9. Student must meet all other eligibility requirements of the Tuition Grants Program
